DIGITAL ANGEL RECEIVES APPROVAL FOR NEW SARBE G2R EMERGENCY
LOCATION TRANSMITTER WITH GPS CAPABILITY FROM COSPAS-SARSAT
Transmitter Designed for Military, Is Lighter, More
Secure than Competition
SO. ST. PAUL, MN (May 15,
2006) … Digital Angel Corporation (Amex: DOC), an advanced technology
company in the field of rapid and accurate identification, location
tracking, and condition monitoring of high-value assets, announced today
that its London-based subsidiary, Signature Industries, has received
approval from Cospas-Sarsat for a new emergency location transmitter (ELT)
that is designed to be lighter and more secure than its competition. The
new SARBE® G2R-ELT will be used for military aircraft to broadcast the
identity and GPS (Global Positioning System) location of an aircraft after
an emergency landing.
For combat operations, the G2R-ELT can be
programmed using sophisticated encryption and signaling techniques that
operate automatically in an emergency landing.
“We developed the
lightweight G2R-ELT after listening closely to the needs of our
customers,” said David Cairnie, CEO of Signature Industries. “The typical
ELTs on the market today are heavy, not covert, and susceptible to damage
through complex installation requirements. Our new product has eliminated
those issues and we believe it fits the demands of the international
market.”
The new ELT will also be available in a commercial version
for helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft.
Cospas-Sarsat, an agency
overseen by the U.S., France, Russia and Canada, is an international
satellite system that uses spacecraft and ground facilities to provide
distress alert and location data to search and rescue operations around
the world. The system is responsible for saving more than 17,000 lives
since its inception in 1988.
